The Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) at the Institute of Astrophysics (IA) of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica (PUC), led by Profs. Franz Bauer and Ezequiel Treister, is seeking to hire immediately one postdoctoral fellow. Because of the current travel restrictions, we can only receive applications from candidates holding a valid Chilean Tax ID (RUT number) and a current work permit.
The AGN group at PUC focuses on multiwavelength studies of local and high redshift AGN and their host galaxies. For this position, we are particularly interested in candidates with previous spectroscopic experience, ideally with optical and near-IR Integral Field Unit (IFU) spectrographs in the optical and/or near-IR. The selected candidate will preferentially work on existing VLT/MUSE data obtained using both the WFM and NFM modes for nearby AGN in major galaxy mergers, and high redshift systems. Candidates who can contribute to our ambitious ALMA studies of z>3 AGN, nearby ULIRGs in the GOALS sample, and PG Quasars are also encouraged to apply.
The position is initially for a one year period, starting on July 1st, 2020, with a possible extension depending on funding. Applications will be received until the position is filled, with an initial review starting from June 8th, 2020. Applicants should submit by email to Prof. Ezequiel Treister (etreiste@astro.puc.cl) in a single PDF file the following documents: a brief cover letter; CV; publication list; research summary (max. three pages) describing past projects emphasizing spectroscopic and/or ALMA experience, and the names of at least two persons willing to write letters of recommendation upon request.
Applicants can find useful information regarding salary, benefits, working, and living conditions for new postdocs here. Interested candidates can contact Prof. Franz Bauer (fbauer@astro.puc.cl) or Ezequiel Treister (etreiste@astro.puc.cl) for further information.
